  • Brainard Airport / Hartford Jet Center

    Managed by owner / operator Lindsey Rutka, HJC is a full service FBO offering complete private and corporate pilot services, fuel sales as well as charter operations and aircraft sales.

    In association with the Connecticut Airport Authority, Rutka oversees the safe and efficient operation of the third busiest airport in Connecticut with over 60,000 operations in fiscal 2021.

    Brainard Airport is a central regional location for state safety and is the base of operations for:

    Connecticut State Police, Civil Air Patrol, Homeland Security, and Local FBI

    Brainard based volunteer pilots fly Angel Flight Northeast missions, providing free air transportation to seriously ill and medically needy patients.

    Brainard Airport has on site an Air Traffic Control Tower, capable of managing traffic flow safety with Bradley and able to help integrate the increased activity expected with up-coming drone activity.

    VIP, Inc. is an FAA Certified, leading sales and service center for avionics, auto-pilot systems, and aircraft instrumentation.

    Total Aircraft Parts, Inc. was founded in 1989 as a local parts supplier for all major brands of piston engine aircraft. Shortly thereafter in 1996 the company expanded into aircraft maintenance as well as parts distribution.

    Three active flight schools are present on-site:

    Premier Flight Center, Learn2Fly CT and ATP Flight School.

    Hartford based Aquiline Drones, Inc. has been working with HJC to establish a charter service operation on the field to the Islands and develop a Drone Franchise Operation based at Brainard.

  • Educational Opportunities

    With a critical national pilot and aircraft technician shortage, Hartford Brainard Airport has many active programs and educational opportunities to fill that critical need.

    There are 3 active flight schools on the field, training close to 100 private pilots every year. Many pilots go on to pursue careers in major airlines. It begins on the field at Brainard.

    CT Aero Tech School at the airport’s south end trains up to 25 aviation technicians a year to serve Connecticut’s Aerospace businesses.

    The EAA Young Eagles program Chapter 166, run by president Steve Socolosky, introduces aviation to hundreds of students age 8-17 annually, many of whom enter careers in aviation.
